Affiliates of Susan G. Komen for The Cure Officials Visit NUMC's Breast Center

As reported by NuHealth, greater NYC affiliates of Susan G.Komen for the Cure officials met at Nassau University Medical Center to tour the National Mah Jongg League Foundation Breast Center and to discuss the progress of their recently awarded $45,000 grant to assist the breast screening program provided by the breast center at NUMC.
 

The $45,000 grant will help provide coverage of medical costs for medically underserved women between the ages of 40-49 years old who have limited resources.  “These funds will assist us in enduring that all women continue to have access to quality breast services and care, regardless of their ability to pay,” indicated Chris Mancuso, RN and director of the breast screening program.


CEO of Komen Greater NYC, Dana Richardson-Heron, explained during her site visit that they “conducted a needs assessment of our community and discovered that women were still not accessing valuable early detection of breast cancer through mammography and follow up,” (NuHealth Press Release). She continued, “We are confident that through the NuHealth System’s breast screening program underserved women in the community will have low-cost access to the care they need.”


Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the world's largest breast cancer organization, and their affiliates fund inoovative programs that help women and men overcome all barriers, including cultural, social, educational and financial, to breast cancer screening and treatment.
