Calling all pregnant women! Do you need classes in childbirth? Maybe you’re a first time mother and you’re nervous for your first delivery? Or, maybe you need a refresher class to remind you of some handy tips and skills while in the labor room?

The Nassau University Medical Center department of obstetrics/gynecology is offering week-end Lamaze childbirth education classes. For $30 you will receive a two-part series of classes taught by trained obstetrics nurses and certified childbirth educators and are offered in English and Spanish.

According to a press release posted by the NuHealth team, Chaur-Dong Hsu, chairman of the department of obstetrics/gynecology at NUMC believes “Lamaze empowers the laboring mother to be proactive in making informed decisions regarding her labor and her baby. If you are interested in learning how to decrease your fears, learn techniques to manage pain and discomfort, if you wish to feel more confident about the labor process, then our Lamaze classes are for you.”

Some of the topics included in the Lamaze childbirth education classes offered within the NuHealth Women’s Care facilities are: normal labor, birth and early postpartum; positioning to facilitate the normal progress of labor and birth; massage techniques to ease the pain of labor and to enhance relaxation; comfort measures, such as hydrotherapy, the use of heart, cold and pressure; relaxation skills to use during labor and after pregnancy to relieve stress; labor support advice for the partner and the professional.
